Welcome to The Lucky Few Foundation

Founded by New York Times best-selling author Heather Avis, The Lucky Few Foundation is a global storytelling movement, shifting narratives to create a more inclusive world where everyone belongs.

An Invitation to the Movement

The Lucky Few Foundation is the nonprofit arm of The Lucky Few, a national Down syndrome advocacy organization. The Foundation ensures that family members, friends and loved ones of a person with Down syndrome have the opportunity to share what it means to be part of “the lucky few,” and everyone else has the opportunity to access it.

2022 Annual Report

The Lucky Crew is also a social group that facilitates discussions about advocacy and activism to create a more inclusive world. As a Crewmate, you will also have access to the most up-to-date The Lucky Few news, fun giveaways, merch discounts, and monthly video calls with The Lucky Few founder, Heather Avis! We are so happy you are here with us!

Watch Bill’s Story

When Bill received his son's Down syndrome diagnosis, he had no idea what the future would like. Like so many parents in this community, Bill shared with us that he had to "reset his expectations of what a father-son relationship was going to be" as soon as he met Alex.

Through storytelling, The Lucky Few Foundation is strengthening humanity, shifting harmful narratives and creating a world where everyone belongs. Help us tell the diverse, good and true Down syndrome story. Your contribution builds relational bridges to the Down syndrome community necessary to create a more inclusive world for all of us.
